Assistant Chief Bermudez became involved with the Nogales Police Department
while still in high school. He was a Cadet Explorer from 1981 to 1984,
where he assisted in a civilian volunteer capacity and where he became
captivated with police work.
Assistant Chief Bermudez joined the Nogales Police Department in July 1984
as a Police Dispatcher and then transferred to Parking Control Officer in
1986.
In January of 1987, Assistant Chief Bermudez was hired as a Police Officer
and attended the Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy (ALETA) and was
assigned to the Patrol Division.
In December of 1990, Assistant Chief Bermudez was promoted to the rank of
Detective and was assigned to the Santa Cruz County Metro Task Force and was
re-assigned to the General Investigations Division in July 1992.
Assistant Chief Bermudez was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was
assigned to the Patrol Division in July of 1993 and eventually re-assigned
to the Santa Cruz County Metro Task Force as the Unit Supervisor in January
of 1997.
In June of 1997, Assistant Chief Bermudez was promoted to the rank of
Lieutenant where he commanded the Support Division, Patrol Division, and
Investigations Division, along with the Special Response Team during his
tenture.
In September of 2001, Assistant Chief Bermudez was promoted to the rank of
Captain and in charge of the departments operations until his promotion to
Assistant Chief of Police in July of 2007.
